How to extract audio from a video
Drop your video above — or several at once — and press Extract audio. The sound track is taken out of the video and saved as its own file, ready for a music app, a podcast editor, a transcription service or your phone. Download it, or download a ZIP if you extracted from several videos.
A video to audio converter that keeps the quality
Most video to audio converters turn everything into MP3, which changes the sound a little every time. This tool starts with Original audio: the sound is lifted out of the video exactly as it is, so nothing changes and even a long recording is ready in seconds. Most phone and MP4 videos give you an M4A file, which plays on all modern phones and computers.
When to choose MP3 or WAV
Choose MP3 when something asks for MP3 specifically — an older car stereo, a website upload, a music player that does not accept M4A. Our MP4 to MP3 converteropens with MP3 already selected. Choose WAV for audio editors and transcription services that ask for it; it is much larger, and the MP4 to WAV converter opens with it selected.
Only part of the sound
To keep one section — a single song from a concert video, one answer from an interview — trim the video first with Cut & Merge, then extract the audio from the shorter clip. To do the opposite and keep the picture without the sound, useRemove Audio from Video.
Private by design
Your video is opened from your own device and the audio is saved straight back to your downloads. Nothing is uploaded, so private recordings stay private and large files do not have to wait for an upload.
Frequently asked questions
How do I extract audio from a video?
Drop the video above and press Extract audio. The sound is taken out exactly as it is in the video, with no change in quality, and saved as an audio file. You can also choose MP3 or WAV instead.
What format will the audio be in?
With Original audio selected, the sound keeps the format it already has in the video. For most MP4 and iPhone videos that is an M4A file, which plays on iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac. If the video's sound is MP3, you get an MP3. Choose MP3 or WAV if you need one of those specifically.
Does extracting audio lose quality?
Not with Original audio: the sound is copied out unchanged, so it is identical to what you hear in the video. Converting to MP3 changes it very slightly — not enough to hear at the default quality.
Which videos can I extract audio from?
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and anything else your browser can play — phone recordings, screen recordings, downloaded clips. If a video has no sound track, the tool tells you.
Can I extract audio from several videos at once?
Yes. Choose several videos together and they are converted one after another. Save each file, or download them all as a ZIP.
Is my video uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser, so your video never leaves your device.
