Open calculator →Choosing between them
The EMI calculators use the identical formula and differ only in how they take tenure — years for a home loan, months for everything else. That is not a cosmetic choice: a twenty-year secured loan and a five-year unsecured one behave so differently that mixing them up produces answers that look plausible and are wrong by a wide margin.
The SIP calculator sits on the other side of the ledger. Where an EMI schedule shows interest working against you, a SIP projection shows compounding working for you — and over long horizons the two are surprisingly symmetric in scale.
Rates are indicative Indian market ranges as a starting point, not quotes. Use the figure your lender actually offers.
Frequently asked questions
Which calculator should I use for a car loan?
The Personal & Car Loan EMI Calculator. It takes tenure in months, which is how car and consumer-durable loans are quoted. Use the Home Loan calculator only for long-tenure secured property loans, where you also want an amortization schedule.
What is the difference between an EMI and a SIP?
An EMI is money going out — a fixed monthly repayment against a loan, where interest works against you. A SIP is money going in — a fixed monthly investment, where compounding works for you. The two use related maths in opposite directions.
Do these calculators work for currencies other than rupees?
The maths is currency-neutral, so the EMI and maturity figures are correct for any currency. Only the formatting is Indian — amounts display with the ₹ symbol and lakh/crore grouping.
