Why remove EXIF data?
Every JPEG taken with a smartphone embeds a rich metadata block: your GPS coordinates (often accurate to within a few metres), the exact timestamp, your phone model, and sometimes even your name if set in the camera app. When you share photos publicly — on social media, in listings, or in documents — this data travels with the file and is readable by anyone with a metadata viewer.
Stripping EXIF before sharing is a straightforward privacy step. This tool handles up to 100 files in one pass so you don't need to clean them one by one.
FAQs
What metadata is removed?
All EXIF, IPTC, and XMP segments — GPS, camera make/model, lens, date, copyright, and artist fields. The Canvas re-encode produces a clean output file with none of the original metadata blocks.
Does it affect image quality?
Quality defaults to 96, which is near-lossless. A microscopic re-encode difference may exist but is invisible to the eye.
Will orientation be correct?
Yes — the tool reads the Orientation tag before stripping and applies the correct canvas rotation so portrait photos stay upright.
Are photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser tab via the Canvas API. No network request is made.
