Complete Logic Rules & Solving Strategies

➰

Slitherlink (Loop Path)

  • Single Closed Loop: The final line must form exactly one continuous closed circuit. No dead ends (degree 1) or branches (degree 3+).
  • Clue Constraints: Cells with numbers (0, 1, 2, 3) must have exactly that many surrounding edges on the loop.
  • Corner 0 Rules: A '0' means none of its four surrounding edges belong to the loop. Cross them out immediately!
  • Adjacent 3s: Two adjacent 3s immediately force outer parallel edges and the middle line!

Nonogram (Picross / Griddlers)

  • Number Runs: Each clue lists lengths of consecutive blocks of filled squares (e.g. '1 3' means 1 filled square, followed by at least one blank, followed by 3 filled squares).
  • Order Matters: Runs appear in the exact order shown from left to right (rows) or top to bottom (columns).
  • Overlap Principle: When a single block length exceeds half the grid dimension (e.g. clue 4 in a 5-wide grid), the middle cells are guaranteed to overlap and can be safely filled!
  • Exclusion Marking: Place crosses (✖) in squares that cannot be filled to narrow down remaining options.

Frequently asked questions

How do you play Slitherlink (Logic Path)?

Connect adjacent dots with horizontal or vertical line segments to form a single continuous, non-intersecting loop without branches. The number in a cell indicates how many of its four boundary edges belong to the loop. Cells with no number can have any number of edges.

How do you play Nonogram (Picross)?

Nonograms are picture logic puzzles where numbers outside the grid indicate lengths of consecutive runs of filled cells in each row and column. Separate runs of filled cells must have at least one empty cell between them. Deduce which cells to fill and which to mark with an X to reveal the hidden pixel art.

How does the built-in Nonogram Solver work?

The solver uses line-by-line constraint propagation and mathematical overlap logic. It identifies cells that must be filled or crossed in every mathematically valid arrangement for that row or column clue.

Is there a daily challenge for Slitherlink and Nonogram?

Yes! Both Slitherlink and Nonogram feature a Daily Puzzle generated fresh every calendar day with seeded solutions.

Can I mark edges with an X in Slitherlink?

Yes. Right-clicking or toggling to 'Cross' mode allows you to mark segments where no loop line can exist. This helps eliminate impossible paths.
