Which case goes where
Programming conventions are not interchangeable, and picking the wrong one is a common source of friction across a codebase. camelCase is the JavaScript and Java default for variables and functions. snake_case dominates Python and SQL. kebab-case is what CSS classes, HTML attributes, and URL slugs use, because those contexts treat underscores poorly. CONSTANT_CASE signals an immutable value in nearly every language.
The conversions here normalise aggressively: any run of non-alphanumeric characters becomes a single separator, and leading or trailing separators are stripped. That means a ragged input like hello --- world! yields a clean hello_world rather than something with stray underscores at the ends.
Title Case capitalises the first letter of each whitespace-separated word and lowercases the rest. It does not apply editorial style rules — it will capitalise short words such as “of” and “the” that a publication’s house style would leave lowercase.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between camelCase and PascalCase?
camelCase starts with a lowercase letter (userName); PascalCase capitalises the first letter too (UserName). JavaScript conventionally uses camelCase for variables and PascalCase for classes and React components. This tool produces camelCase.
Why does kebab-case matter for URLs?
Search engines treat hyphens as word separators but underscores as joiners, so my-blog-post reads as three words while my_blog_post can read as one. Hyphens are the safer choice for slugs.
What happens to punctuation and accents?
Runs of non-alphanumeric characters collapse into the separator for that case style. Accented letters are not transliterated — they are treated as non-alphanumeric, so café becomes caf. Normalise accents beforehand if you need them preserved.
Does Title Case follow editorial rules?
No. It capitalises every word, including articles and prepositions that AP or Chicago style would leave lowercase. Treat the result as a starting point for headline copy.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Every conversion runs in your browser and the text is never transmitted.
