How Excel Compare works

Excel Compare eliminates the manual error of checking spreadsheets row-by-row. When you upload two versions of a financial report, customer database, or inventory count, the tool extracts both sheets into structured matrix arrays.

If you choose Row Position, rows are matched strictly by sequence. If you select a Key Column (such as Customer ID or SKU), records are aligned by their unique identifier regardless of whether rows were sorted, rearranged, or inserted in between.

Frequently asked questions

How does Excel Compare detect changes between workbooks?

Excel Compare parses both workbooks in your browser and compares them either row-by-row or using a designated primary key column (such as ID, SKU, or Email). It flags added rows, deleted rows, and tracks exact cell value modifications.

Can I compare specific worksheets within multi-sheet Excel files?

Yes. Once workbooks are loaded, dropdowns display all available sheet names for both File A and File B, allowing you to compare any sheet pair.

Are my confidential spreadsheets uploaded to any server?

No. The comparison algorithm executes 100% locally in your web browser memory. No spreadsheet content is ever transmitted across the internet.

Can I export the differences report?

Yes. You can export the list of changes, old vs new cell values, and added/removed rows directly as a CSV report or download it for auditing.
