Invoice Generator Date Calculator

Net 30 means the buyer must pay the full amount of the invoice within 30 calendar days of the invoice date. “Net” is the total after any agreed discounts, and “30” is the number of days the buyer has. An invoice dated October 21, 2026 on Net 30 terms is due on November 20, 2026.

How to count the days

  • Start from the invoice date, unless your contract names another start point.
  • Count calendar days. Weekends and holidays are included.
  • Write the actual due date on the invoice. “Net 30” alone invites arguments. “Net 30, due November 20, 2026” does not.

What 2/10 Net 30 really costs the buyer

On a $10,000 invoice, paying on day 10 costs $9,800. Waiting until day 30 costs $10,000. That is $200 for keeping $9,800 for another 20 days: about 2% for 20 days, or roughly 37% a year. That is why buyers with spare cash take the discount, and why sellers who need cash fast offer one.

Should you offer Net 30?

For: business customers expect trade credit, it wins repeat orders, and it is standard in many industries.

Against: you have delivered and are waiting a month for your money, some payers stretch Net 30 into 45 or 60, and there is a risk of not being paid at all.

Ways to take the edge off:

  • Ask new customers for a deposit, or for the first order to be paid on receipt.
  • Invoice on the day you deliver. Every day you wait to send it is a day added to your terms.
  • Put the late-fee terms on every invoice, within your local legal limits.
  • Offer 2/10 Net 30 if being paid sooner is worth 2% to you.

If the customer has not agreed to your terms yet, send a quote with the payment terms on it first. That way, Net 30 is something the customer accepted before you started work, not a surprise on the invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Does Net 30 mean 30 days or 30 business days?

Calendar days, unless the contract says otherwise. Weekends and public holidays count. If day 30 falls on a weekend, many payers treat the next business day as the deadline, but that is a convention, not a rule, so state it on the invoice if it matters to you.

When does the 30 days start?

Normally on the invoice date. Some contracts count from the delivery date or from when the buyer receives the invoice, and Net 30 EOM counts from the end of the month the invoice was issued in. Whatever the start point is, write the due date on the invoice.

What does 2/10 Net 30 mean?

The buyer can take a 2% discount by paying within 10 days. Otherwise the full amount is due in 30 days. Skipping the discount to keep the money 20 days longer costs the buyer the equivalent of about 37% a year, so most buyers who can pay early do.

Is Net 30 or Net 60 better?

Net 30 is better for the seller, who gets paid sooner. Net 60 is better for the buyer, who keeps the cash longer. Large companies often insist on 60 or 90 days. Small suppliers should push for 30 or less, or price the longer wait into the quote.

What is the difference between Net 30 and due on receipt?

Due on receipt, also called Net 0, means pay as soon as the invoice arrives. Net 30 gives the buyer a month. Due on receipt suits one-off jobs and consumers. Net terms are a form of trade credit that suppliers offer business customers they trust.

What happens if a Net 30 invoice is paid late?

Only what your terms say. If the invoice or contract sets a late fee or interest, for example 1.5% a month, you can charge it within the limits of your state or country's law. If it sets nothing, you can usually only ask. Put the late-payment term on every invoice.
